While on vacation in Palm Springs, CA last month, the temperatures were:
HIGH: 111 degrees
LOW: 80 degrees
How did I get my run in?
1) Wake up at 5AM to run outside?
OR
2) Run on the treadmill in an air conditioned room?
Hmmmm…This was vacation. There was no way I was waking up at 5AM. Plus, it was still too hot to run 16 miles at that hour. So…
I decided to set a world record for most mileage ever run (by me) on the treadmill.

I was going to have to break a rule, triple time
And so, this became my view for a very long 16 mile run on the treadmill:

And this is what I saw out the window. Beautiful, but remember…HOT

I did it. I crushed my previous record of running 12 miles on the treadmill. Yes, it was boring, and no, I am not really a fan of the treadmill, but I am grateful to have the option when necessary. And I truly hope I never have to beat the current record of 16 miles.
How do you desert dwellers do it?
What’s the most mileage you’ve ever ran on a treadmill?

I think us desert dwellers are just more used to the dry heat! During the week we usually go running after the sun goes down, but on the weekends sometimes we’re jogging well into the morning. We also don’t have a lot of big trees, so not a lot of shade either! Cold sweats and goosebumps are always interesting in the middle of a hot afternoon.
I think maybe the longest treadmill run I’ve ever done is 6 miles, but it might even be as low as 5.
Well, I give mad props to you. I am not a fan of the heat. You will kill it in Chicago in October!
