Olympic Track and Field-My Weekend Highlights

What an event-filled weekend of Athletics (Track and Field) in the Olympics.

This is what I watched/followed:

I know, I know…I said no sprints. But I got sucked in. It IS running, and it’s something that I just never will excel at, so I found myself watching in awe.

Biggest highlight of the weekend for me:

Watching South Africa’s Oscar Pistorius place second in the semi-final heat! This was inspiring. His story is inspiring.

At the age of 11 months, he lost both legs below the knees. This didn’t stop him from doing everything his older brother did, and he shined early as an athlete. His mom would treat them equally as well telling his brother to, “put on your shoes,” and telling Oscar to, “put on your legs” before going outside to play.

Although he didn’t advance to the final heat, his second place finish in the semi-final round and his participation in the 2012 Olympics has been an inspiration to many around the world. Although he lost his legs before he was old enough to even walk, this was not a deterrent for him to do what he was born to do…run.

Off topic question: who else thinks all the Olympic athletes photos look like mug shots?

Oscar Pistorius

Tiki Gelana-Marathon Gold

Michael Phelps (I know, not a runner)

What was your favorite track and field event over the weekend?
