Tomorrow, Friday, August 3 is the first day of 10 straight days of running in the Olympics. EXCITED!
I have to be honest, I don’t know much, or really care about: hurdles, steeplechase, decathlon.
I am semi-interested in: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m (I am NOT a sprinter, remember?)
I am pretty interested in: 5000m, 1000m
I am REALLY interested in…can you guess?
The…MARATHON! Both men’s and women’s.
On Sunday is the women’s marathon.
In case you didn’t know, Paula Radcliffe, the marathon world record holder, is not competing in the Olympics in her hometown.
She has a foot injury, which may prevent her from ever running a marathon again. Radcliffe’s hopes of ever winning an Olympic Gold have been shattered. Just days before she was supposed to be running, she pulled out, giving her spot to Freya Murray, who has only ever ran one marathon (2:28.10 in April), and now must prepare to run the Olympic marathon in just days (although she says she is fully trained and ready to go)!
I cannot even imagine the pain, both physically and emotionally, Radcliffe must be feeling. But, what an amazing opportunity for Murray!
What are your thoughts on Radcliffe pulling out of the marathon last minute? How do you think Murray will do?
